PE Fault

An overview of what a PE fault is, its common causes, and the steps an installer needs to take to diagnose and resolve it

PE refers to the earth potential of the cable.

Causes

Normally this faut would occur when an earth connection has become loose or faulty, either with the installation or within the charger itself.

Repairs

Installer needs to check earth connections are good and sound within the installation. This can only be done by the installer. To prove a good earth the installer will need to supply us a good ZS reading and verify the integrity of the cable with a 240v Insulation Resistance test. The IR test is to cover everything as the RCD at the property side should trip before insulation becomes an issue. If everything the installer sends is within limits, then a Site Visit will be raised.
